About Féach
Founded over 30 years ago as a support group for parents of blind and visually impaired children, Féach evolved in response to the need for more practical resources for parents, teachers, and healthcare workers supporting children with sight loss. Achieving charity status in 2022, Féach—a small but impactful organisation—has developed guides, webinars, and training courses to educate those working with visually impaired children, aiming to improve their educational and social outcomes.
Collaborative Training
Based in Dublin, Féach and Angel Eyes in Northern Ireland have collaborated on various educational initiatives to provide guidance and resources across Ireland. Their most recent project delivered a one-day training course for Classroom Assistants and Special Needs Assistants throughout Ireland.
This workshop provided in-depth education on various eye conditions and their effects on students, covering methods for ensuring curriculum accessibility through adapted materials and technology that supports independent learning. Participants left with a significantly enhanced understanding of how to support visually impaired students and access further resources to improve their assistance.
Supporting Adaptation
Féach seeks to broaden the reach of its IT/AT Audit Tool and resources, aiming to implement them in more schools to equip visually impaired students with essential IT skills for independent curriculum access. Numerous schools have already expressed interest in this initiative, which also enables Féach to extend targeted support to individual institutions where students face adaptation challenges. Personalised, one-on-one troubleshooting with schools has proven highly impactful, providing meaningful assistance to students in need of additional support.
The Grant
The Hospital Saturday Fund awarded a grant of €13,500 to Féach to support children with vision impairments in building independence and thriving in daily life. This grant will enhance Féach’s ability to provide critical resources, tailored guidance, and skill-building opportunities for these children’s long-term success.
