About Embrace FARM
Embrace FARM is a farming organisation that was founded by Brian and Norma Rohan, a farming family from Shanahoe, County Laois in 2014. Brian’s father, Liam Rohan, died in a sudden farm accident in 2013. Liam Rohan was a well-respected farmer who had represented Ireland several times at the World Ploughing Championships. He tragically passed away days after suffering a severe head injury while working on machinery.
The Story of Embrace FARM
Following the tragic loss of Liam, the Rohan family recognised a significant gap in emotional and practical support networks for farming families facing similar circumstances. In response, they established Embrace FARM, which attained charitable status in 2017. Now operating as a fully functional not-for-profit organisation, Embrace FARM is the first of its kind in Ireland, dedicated to supporting the unique needs of the farming community.
Strengthening Rural Families
The Minding Me project is dedicated to enhancing the mental health and well-being of children impacted by farm-related tragedies. By offering access to counselling and support, the initiative seeks to address the trauma experienced by children following the sudden death or injury of a loved one on a farm. Ultimately, the project aims to strengthen family units and improve the dynamics of rural farming families during these challenging times.
The Minding Me project will ensure that children in remote rural areas affected by such tragedies receive the critical counselling and peer support they need. The grant will specifically cover the costs of counselling services and peer engagement activities, focusing on regions with the greatest need to provide meaningful support during family bereavement.
The Grant
The Hospital Saturday Fund awarded a grant of €13,500 to Embrace FARM. The grant will go towards their Minding Me project providing access to therapy and counselling, and residential family weekend retreats for children traumatised after a sudden death
or injury of a loved one on a farm.
