About The Princess Alice Hospice
Founded in 1985, The Princess Alice Hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients with life-limiting illnesses. Based in Esher, Surrey, the Hospice supports communities across Surrey, Middlesex, and South West London. With a long-standing reputation for compassionate care, it is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and dignity for patients and their families.
The Importance of Care at Home
A central part of The Princess Alice Hospice’s work is its Hospice at Home service. Many individuals express a desire to spend their final days in the familiarity of home, surrounded by loved ones. This service makes that possible, offering expert care to patients while ensuring dignity and comfort. At present, the hospice supports 728 people through its Hospice at Home service.
This personalised care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers, and occupational therapists. Last year, the team carried out 11,850 consultations, either in person or via telephone and video calls.
Delivering Value in Care
The Hospice at Home service not only provides compassionate care but also delivers excellent value for money. Each visit costs an average of £105, considerably lower than the costs of inpatient hospice care. This approach enables the Hospice to extend its reach and care for more people in their homes, ensuring greater accessibility to its services. Despite its success, demand for the service continues to increase. Princess Alice Hospice remains committed to expanding its provision to meet the needs of the community.
The Grant
The Hospital Saturday Fund awarded a £3,000 grant to Princess Alice Hospice. This funding will support the continuation and expansion of the Hospice at Home service, helping to provide high-quality, personalised end-of-life care for more patients across the region.
