About Creating Adventures
Creating Adventures, a registered charity located in Warrington, Cheshire, has consistently worked to enrich the lives of adults with autism and learning disabilities. Creating Adventures has remained dedicated to helping individuals build confidence and offering opportunities for self-expression through a variety of activity programmes. The Art Project continues to thrive and has grown significantly, positively impacting the lives of its participants.
Supporting Independence
Creating Adventures has established a vibrant community offering a range of activities designed to enhance members’ social skills, communication, self-expression, confidence, and independence. The charity has recently relocated to new premises, “The Old School,” which provides a more suitable environment for its programmes. In addition, Creating Adventures has appointed a full-time Community Engagement Coordinator to further support the programmes, alongside the founder’s mother, who continues to contribute by assisting Creating Adventures three days a week.
The Recipe for Success Project
The “Recipe for Success” project aims to engage and up-skill 20 adults aged 18-55 with autism and learning disabilities. Each session will accommodate 10 adults, participating in a two-week, workshop-style programme with specific learning outcomes. The focus will be on promoting healthy lifestyles, building life skills, and encouraging independent living, while also providing an enjoyable cooking experience for participants and their families. Unlike typical courses that focus on basic recipes, Creating Adventures offers a more enriching experience to teach valuable independent living skills.
The project is delivered in a professional kitchen, requiring a Food Technology teacher, two classes per afternoon, and room hire to meet safety standards. These costs are the charity’s largest operational expense, and Creating Adventures aims to support 116 members annually.
The Grant
The Hospital Saturday Fund has awarded Creating Adventures a grant of £10,000 to support their “Recipe for Success” project. This funding will be used to deliver cooking classes that empower adults with additional needs to develop essential skills for independent living.
