Julia’s House Children’s Hospice
Julia’s House children’s hospice supports families across Dorset and Wiltshire, providing expert clinical care for 0-18 year olds with life- limiting or life-threatening conditions. Respite sessions are held in their own homes or at one of their two friendly hospices.
Fundraiser, Lisa Holmes, tells us that in 2019, 1319 respite care sessions were held at children’s homes in Wiltshire alone. 90% of these sessions needed two care team staff present, and over half of the sessions required a nurse. With Covid-19, nurses and carers are playing a vital role in supporting families at home.
How we helped
In 2019, The Hospital Saturday fund awarded a grant of £2,000 which was used towards the salary of a Wiltshire nurse.
Impact
Julia’s House are good at reading a family’s barometer, picking up when the pressure is too high or the mood is too low. The nurses and carers are not fazed by anything and that’s hugely reassuring. The service we get is phenomenal. Having a care date on the calendar is something to cling on to – it’s a peg to hang the rest of the week on.
Wiltshire mum
During 2020, Julia’s House continue to care for and support children with life-limiting conditions at home whenever and wherever families need them.
