About Richard House
Richard House was the first children’s hospice in London and has provided care to life-limited children and their families in the community for more than 20 years.
Dealing with Covid-19 – A nurses’s story
Sarah Crowley is a Palliative Care Nurse at Richard House. She recently talked about some of the ways she and her team are responding to the Covid – 19 pandemic.
“Richard House will have an important role supporting the NHS over the coming weeks by taking on children with long-term conditions from hospital wards, so that we can free up hospital beds for people who need critical care.”
“Morale amongst our care staff is fairly high at the moment. We feel that by continuing to do our jobs, helping the
most vulnerable children in the community, we are doing our bit to help with the Covid-19 battle. We are all working together to make a safe and happy environment, making sure we are here for each other, with small gestures such as making a cuppa, lending an ear to someone who needs to voice their worries or by offering lifts to staff members who rely on public transport.”
“I know that everyone is affected by the fear and anxiety caused by COVID-19. But we, as care staff know that it is
vital to continue coming into Richard House because of the support we provide to the most vulnerable families in our communities.”
The Hospital Saturday Fund Covid-19 Grant
The Hospital Saturday Fund recently donated £2,000 towards the purchase of PPE equipment at Richard House. This donation was part of many that have been granted through our new Covid-19 Grant – hospitalsaturdayfund.org/covid-19-grant/
Response to the Grant
On behalf of all of the children, families and staff at Richard House, I would like to thank you for this generous donation, which will go towards our vital services for life-limited children and their families.Without the generosity of supporters such as yourselves we simply would not be able to offer the same level of care to the children and families who use the hospice. Our focus is on living for today and creating positive memories for tomorrow, and with your support we are able to do that, making a real difference to the lives of children and young people with life-threatening healthcare needs.
