About Cure Leukaemia
Cure Leukaemia was founded in 2003 by Professor Charlie Craddock CBE, along with patients Graham Silk and Michael Woolley, to provide blood cancer patients in the Birmingham region with access to new, highly effective treatments that were becoming available.
Since then, the charity has expanded nationwide, now offering potentially life-saving treatments to patients across the UK. The continued growth of Cure Leukaemia is made possible by the unwavering support of its dedicated community of fundraisers, enabling more patients each year to access these vital treatments.
National TAP
In January 2020, Cure Leukaemia committed £3 million over three years to support the national Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP).
The TAP Network connects patients with world-class, potentially life-saving treatments that are not accessible through standard care. Reaching a catchment area of over 20 million patients, the TAP Network provides crucial access to advanced treatments for those diagnosed with blood cancer—over 40,000 people each year. This initiative plays a vital role in expanding access to cutting-edge therapies that can significantly improve patient outcomes.
Expanding Horizons
Cure Leukaemia has proudly established itself as the official charity partner for the TdF Femmes cycle race and La Vuelta, as well as for prestigious marathons, including those in Paris and New York. This partnership reflects the charity’s commitment to engaging with a wider audience and raising vital funds for blood cancer research and treatment.
Recognising the importance of diversifying their fundraising efforts, Cure Leukaemia has also created a corporate development board. This board is dedicated to exploring and identifying new opportunities within the corporate sector, allowing the charity to forge meaningful partnerships that can enhance its outreach and impact.
The Grant
The Hospital Saturday Fund awarded a grant of £10,000 to Cure Leukaemia. The grant will help support the funding of a research nurse at The Royal Marsden, one of the newer hospitals approved by the Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP). Research nurses play a crucial role in patient care, serving as a consistent point of contact throughout the challenging course of treatment.
