About Charlie Waller
The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust was set up in 1997 in memory of Charlie Waller, a young man who took his own life whilst suffering from depression. Shortly after his death, his family founded the Trust in order to educate young people on the importance of staying mentally well and how to do it.
People working in Healthcare
Recently they found there is evidence to suggest that people working in healthcare are more prone than the general population to experience mental health problems. With this in mind, The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, together with the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM), has developed some advice for medics – a resource designed to help health professionals recognise when something isn’t right.
Recent funding
In October 2019 we provided a £3,000 grant to help support this project and received this reaction…
Our Taking care of your mental health as a health professional resource is an important component in our primary care staff training. Now it is even more important for health care professionals to look after their own mental health taking into account the current physical and mental strain they are facing.
Our trainers have disseminated the resource at their training sessions over the past six months and we have had 524 unique visitors to our primary care resource page on our website. This work was possible with the support of the Hospital Saturday Fund.
