About The Irish Heart Foundation
Founded in 1966, the Irish Heart Foundation is Ireland’s leading heart and stroke charity. It’s a passionate community dedicated to safeguarding the cardiovascular health of everyone in the country. Notably, they are among the elite 0.7% of Irish charities holding the prestigious Triple Lock Standard, which recognises exceptional commitment to transparency, ethical fundraising, and strong governance.
The urgency of their mission is undeniable. Each year, around 6,000 strokes devastate Irish lives, with over 70% of survivors facing lasting disabilities. Alarmingly, stroke incidence is predicted to surge by nearly 60% by 2035. In response, the Irish Heart Foundation has tirelessly championed life-saving services for patients.
Saving Lives
The Irish Heart Foundation’s impact extends far and wide across Ireland. Their health prevention services empower everyone to take control of their cardiovascular health. But their reach doesn’t stop there. They provide vital support services to over 5,000 heart and stroke patients yearly, offering a lifeline during challenging times.
Prevention is a cornerstone of their mission. Each year, the Irish Heart Foundation reaches over 100,000 students in primary and secondary schools, equipping them with CPR training and knowledge to prevent heart-related emergencies.
Community and Care
Leaving the hospital after a stroke can be daunting. Many survivors face limited rehabilitation options and a sense of isolation. The Irish Heart Foundation steps in with a critical support system, their network of 20 monthly in-person Stroke Support Groups across Ireland.
The Irish Heart Foundation is committed to expanding this vital network. With enough funding, they can equip 10 stroke support groups with life-saving defibrillators. This investment would not only enhance the well-being of countless stroke survivors but also potentially save lives in the event of a cardiac emergency.
The Grant
The Hospital Saturday Fund presented a grant of €13,500 to the Irish Heart Foundation. The grant will purchase 10 defibrillators and 10 first aid kits, ensuring that lifesaving equipment is readily available for stroke survivors and fully trained staff/volunteers.
